Thursdays in the Park with ICE?
By now most people who have recovered from their July 4th barbecue are realizing that what happened in Los Angeles on July 7 will not stay in Los Angeles. One hundred heavily armed cos play soldiers, reportedly under the orders of Stephen Miller, tried to show locals who is boss by taking over McArthur Park, but the ICE-ing was not sweet green.
Not content with storm- trooper-lite choreographed marching, emulating the NAZI Sturmabteilung brownshirts my father hid from in Munich in 1933, they brought in the cavalry and armored vehicles.
The officious and arrogant ICE man Gregory Bovino chastised Americans to get used to this. But what exactly is this? No one was detained. No criminals, dangerous or otherwise, were sought or apprehended (did they even have a warrant?). No one was rescued from a flood in Texas or a fire in Altadena. No one was saved from eating too much of Langer’s Deli Pastrami a few hundred feet away.
Perhaps these toy soldiers were just bored from hiding out in the Federal Building, eating MREs and sleeping on concrete floors like the detainees they hope to send to concentration camps. They needed the diversion of seeming useful. Time to strut about and go for a ride in the country.
This was not harmless frat boy fun. The ICE endangered children at a day camp with their antics, going so far in their intimidation tactics as to level a rifle at them.
The kids were terrified and were rushed out of harms way by responsible camp counselors.
I don’t know who had to sweep up the horseshit from the cavalry. But I sure as hell think the city should cover costs by fining them. Did they have the required city permits for this demonstration?
One bystander is suing ICE for a $ million for assault (he was taking photos of this farce.
I think the city should sue ICE for impeding vehicular traffic, unauthorized appropriation of public spaces.
When Mayor Bass insisted that these ICICLES melt away, she met resistance and an attempt by bossy bovine Bovino to demean her in his best white privilege mode.
I don’t know if he can be sued for being a loudmouth a-hole, but there are many actions the city and its citizens can take in court as they sue for damages and the illegal seizure of public land.
